Moving Church from Preservation to Connection

This three-part series uses the “case study” of a particular established church that is working to be more community mission and evangelism focused. Facilitator Dr. Stephen Gunter, the Foundation’s director of the E. Stanley Jones Professors of Evangelism grant program, facilitates the conversation with guests Rev. Gary Reynolds, lead pastor at Yukon First Church of the Nazarene, and Dr. Bryan Stone, E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Boston University School of Theology.

Also available in podcast format

Part 1 introduces the guests and helps describes the church’s strengths and growth-areas.

Part 2 focuses on becoming a community mission focused church and planning for those who are not here yet. Dr. Stone and Rev. Reynolds talk through the process of working with the church to see its growth areas and play to its strengths, both inside and outside the church walls.

Part 3 focuses on getting to know your neighbors and making meaningful connections with those in the community, and inviting them into the life and ministry of God’s people. Dr. Stone and Rev. Reynolds tell about real-life encounters and share ideas on how a church can be present to those in their neighborhood and community. Stone shares from his research published in Finding Faith Today

Catalyst Conversations

We invited clergy and laity to unpack what the word “evangelism” really means, and how they are putting it into practice in their church and community. Join them as they discuss what works and what doesn’t. Hear their personal reflections on drawing closer to God and letting the Great Commission inform their lives and relationships with others.

But don’t stop at just watching or listening. You’re invited to keep the conversation going. We’d love to hear what you discuss, and invite you to share your group’s catalyst conversation with us to help inspire and equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ! Just mention @FFEvangelism on social media or email to catalyst@foundationforevanglism.org.
