Four Weeks of Advent Series
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him…” (Romans 15:13)
Jess Hansen came back to the community he grew up in after serving 25 years in prison. He admits he’s stubborn, and it took a while for God to work on him while in jail, but he eventually became involved in the Kairos prison ministry. His first Sunday returning to church, he was welcomed by a former coach. He began talking with the pastor there and met Chief Deputy Brent Koens, who encouraged him to be part of the church’s Kairos ministry. Together, he and Brent began to share Jesus and their lives with the men at Faulk County Jail in Faulkton, South Dakota. Jess and Brent were both selected by the Dakotas Conference of The United Methodist Church to be among the first recipients of The Foundation for Evangelism Laity Award and grant for their prison ministry.
