The Youth Worker Movement

On January 6-7, 2005, an organizing committee of youthworkers gathered to discuss the formation of a new association for United Methodist youthworkers. They discussed the need to connect youthworkers with each other for mutual support and for sharing of resources. An in depth exploration of the group’s vision for the association resulted in seeking identity as a “society” or a “movement.”

The Youthworker Movement is committed to developing youthworkers and providing access to the best resources for youth ministry in United Methodist congregations. The goals of this association include:

  • A professional organization with multiple networks to satisfy requirements for United Methodist youth ministry certification.
  • A plan for preparing new leaders, speakers, and curriculum writers for youth ministries in The United Methodist Church.
  • A plan for addressing needs of youth workers in small, struggling and marginalized congregations.
  • A plan for addressing needs of youth workers in racial and ethnic settings.

An online community connects adult youth workers to network, share resources and ideas, and grow leaders. Visit: www.youthworkermovement.org
