Pray40

Beginning September 6, Pray40 will once again invite The United Methodist Church to pray for students on our nation’s campuses and universities as they head back to class. Coordinated by College Union (www.CollegeUnion.org), the purpose of Pray40 is two-fold: to call the Church to pray for college students, and to help college students to learn to pray. It is not meant to be a set time period where prayers are said and students are wished the best, rather it is meant to be a time when collectively, the body of Christ can specifically pray for a group of people who so desperately need prayers. The “40” in Pray40 also comes from Isaiah 40 which calls us to “prepare the way of the Lord.”

Prayers are written by campus ministers, college students, bishops, authors, pastors and other leaders. They are sent three times each day – one in the morning, one at noon, and one in the evening – by email, through Facebook, Twitter, a downloadable prayer guide, and on the website www.Pray40.com. The hope is that as you pray these prayers, you might see how God is calling you to minister to the future Christian leaders who may not yet know Christ.

A number of supporters have coordinated with College Union to make Pray40 a reality. The Foundation for Evangelism is one of those supporters along with The Upper Room, The General Board of Discipleship, The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, and United Methodist Communications.
