“Welcome home!”
Who would have thought that Montgomery United Methodist Church, established in 1838, was the second oldest Methodist church in Texas? In seven years, however, this church has grown from a membership of 100 to over 700. I inherited this blessing in June of 2010. How did this happen?
First, a small downtown congregation lived out a risk taking faith as they saw God’s vision for this church. Montgomery is a growing area, and they understood the only way to reach newcomers was to move their “home” to the community – along the busy highway running beside their town. New members often remark that our facility has tremendous curb appeal.

Tuscumbia FUMC has been a growing Church for many years. It has been a vibrant and vital part of the Shoals area Christian community since 1822. The Shoals area is located in North West Alabama along the Tennessee River. This Church has had above average Pastoral leadership in the past and this has resulted in significant Church Growth. Since 2000, this Church has really made an effort to reach out and grow all of our ministries.
We have recently shortened our Mission Statement to:
“GLORIFYING GOD BY BEARING MUCH FRUIT”
All of our ministry and mission efforts are guided by this statement which helps us as a Church to stay focused on what we are about.

Kitty Hawk UMC has seen a good increase in attendance in the last couple of years for a number of reasons. The primary reason has to be our priority on worship preparation, which includes much prayer and consecration of the worship space each week. Our program staff is constantly in prayer over the coming worship services. As senior pastor, sermon and worship preparation are my priorities.
Two years ago we began a new emphasis on a Monday night contemporary service that was floundering. Our worship format has been given some new emphases, such as drama and better visuals. We also do better advertising, including invitations from the pulpit on Sundays. Attendance has more than doubled at this service.

Liberty Crossings United Methodist Church is a unique church. Nestled in the woods just outside Birmingham, AL, Liberty Crossings is approximately 10 years old. In the past year and a half, we have seen our average worship attendance rapidly rise from 195 in 2009 to 358 YTD. Thus far in 2011, we have seen a net increase of 38 new members, and we have 5 families who have requested to join but are waiting for our new member class to begin again. These new member numbers would be higher, but we are also in the midst of purging our rolls by sending letters to people who have moved away. In terms of worship, we offer traditional and contemporary worship and regularly incorporate multimedia resources into both services.

Colin Knapp speaks of his ministry, his understanding of evangelism, and his appreciation for Dr. Stephen Gunter and Dr. Laceye Warner at Duke Divinity School. “WikiWorship is a very different way of looking at evangelism. What we have done is invited those with questions to gather within the Christian community to struggle together with the difficult questions that all of us have. In that struggle, we can see the authenticity of the gathered community –– while at the same time, allow everyone to be a part of the direction the discussion goes. We are allowing those from outside the Church to come in and have a real impact on the way the worship service goes. Our intention was not to go out into the community to tell sinners that they were in need of a savior, but rather we invited those from the community to come in and to participate in our faith community.”
