Making the Most of Year-End Giving

Your Gift Makes a Difference!

As a non-profit serving The United Methodist Church, The Foundation for Evangelism receives no funds from the general church. All of our work relies on the generosity of our donors. Your faithful prayers give us encouragement, sharing our message helps to keep the passion alive, and your gifts allow us to fulfill our vision to raise up generations of leaders with a passion for evangelism.

Call or email today to find out how your gift can benefit you and the ministries of The Foundation for Evangelism.

Year-End Giving that Benefits You and Others

Gifts of Cash
Gifts of cash are the most common and simplest way to make a gift in support of our work. For cash gifts, you can deduct an amount up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income, and you are allowed a five-year carryover of any “excess” deduction for use in subsequent years.

Gifts of Insurance
Life insurance is most often used throughout life to provide protection and security for family members or as a retirement instrument. Life insurance is also an attractive way for friends of The Foundation for Evangelism to make a charitable gift because it is a flexible, cost-effective, and in many cases, tax advantaged way to make a major gift. There are two basic ways to make a gift of life insurance: an irrevocable gift of a new or existing policy where you transfer ownership of the policy to the Foundation, or you may name The Foundation for Evangelism as the outright or contingent beneficiary of a policy.

Gifts of Securities
When you give appreciated securities you have held more than one year, you can claim deductions for their full fair market values and avoid any tax on appreciation. The flip side of giving from securities may make sense as well. If you own securities worth less now than when purchased, you can sell them and contribute the cash proceeds. This way, you can take a capital loss on your return, which you can’t do if you donate those securities directly to the Foundation or other organization.

Gifts That Provide You Income
These plans allow you to retain the security of income for the rest of your life while supporting our work and receiving a tax deduction. Life income plans include the charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, charitable lead trust and others.

Ongoing Support for the Work of Evangelism
Equally as important as acquiring assets over one’s lifetime is the process of making decisions about the distribution of those assets through one’s estate plans. This process can be a rewarding experience because careful and thoughtful estate planning requires us to examine what is important in our lives and how we wish to be remembered. Through this form of planned giving the help and commitment of loyal donors will be appreciated not only by those who are presently served, but also by future generations who will need and benefit from Foundation grants for generations to come. The easiest and most frequently utilized way to make an estate gift is by a bequest in your will or living trust. Your attorney can assist you in choosing the appropriate wording for your particular circumstances in order to accomplish your wishes.
