James Holsinger Joins National Foundation Board

JAMES HOLSINGER JOINS NATIONAL FOUNDATION BOARD

LAKE JUNALUSKA, NC – Dr. James W. Holsinger, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., of Lexington, Ken., has joined The Foundation for Evangelism board of trustees. Currently serving as the Charles T. Wethington Jr. Endowed Chair in the Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky, he has also served as the Secretory of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A graduate of Duke University Medical School, Holsinger has served in a variety of academic and administrative appointments at universities and at the federal government level. Dr. Holsinger retired from the U.S. army Reserve as Major General in 1993 after serving 31 years. He has also been active in The United Methodist Church, previously serving as the Virginia Conference Lay Leader, President of The Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church, and a member of the Executive Committee of the World Methodist Council. Holsinger is married to Dr. Barbara Craig Holsinger, and they have four daughters.

The Foundation for Evangelism, a United Methodist non-profit organization, awards grants for the development and training of leaders in The United Methodist Church. Recipients of such grants include 13 seminaries throughout the world including Claremont School of Theology. The Foundation for Evangelism’s Board of Trustees is made up of United Methodist leaders from throughout the United States and oversaw the distribution of $3.4 million in grants awarded to partners in the United States, Africa, Germany and Russia in 2008.

The Foundation for Evangelism is an affiliate of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. Founded in 1949 by the late Dr. Harry Denman, the Foundation provides venture capital to develop leaders with a passion for evangelism who will have a multiplying impact on The United Methodist Church.
