This is part of a series of interviews with pastors of churches whose attendance has grown 20% or more in 5 years. We hope this series will be a resource of ideas to help increase worship attendance at your church.
In an assessment of factors contributing to outstanding attendance growth Dr. Harvey C. Martz of St Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado shared, “We raised the following critical questions: who are we here for, and what business are we in as followers of Jesus Christ? As we answered those questions, it became clear that our church is here for the persons who are already here (to be a caring, healing, discipling community for them) but that we are also here for the thousands of persons around us in south metro Denver who are not yet involved in a faith community.”

Between 1994 and 2009, St Andrew United Methodist Church has experienced growth in average worship attendance from 600 persons to about 1100 persons, budget growth from about $600,000 per year to almost $6 million (including building/capital income) and has graduated 2000 persons from Disciple Bible study.
Dr. Martz shares many interesting and helpful insights into their journey to becoming a more vibrant church, as well as an excellent summary of why this growth in worship and participation has occurred over the past few years.
We encourage you to download and study the information in Dr. Martz entire article.
