This year, Dr. Robert Tuttle, Jr., retires from his position as E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Asbury Theological Seminary, in Orlando, Fla. Yet, he is not so much retiring as shifting focus. Tuttle still plans to teach, including intensive short learning experiences, an online class to 27 students with 20 more on a waiting list, and the Festival of Faith weekend in local churches once a month. He also plans to teach internationally.
The Foundation for Evangelism celebrates the life and ministry of Dr. William L. Apetz, who passed away on July 16, 2010 at the age of 90. In 2007, St. James began to emphasize the development of small groups. That emphasis has kept members and non-members involved in the life of the Church and in worship. In 2008, St. James started another Praise Service in the CLMC. That worship service has continued to grow in attendance. Today, St. James UMC offers four worship services on Sunday morning. The 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. services are held in the sanctuary. The 9:00 and 11:11 a.m. worship services are held in the Christian Life Ministry Center.
Rev. Chris Tiger has been serving the First United Methodist Church of Owasso since June of 1998. During that time the church worship attendance has more than doubled and they are currently averaging about 500 in attendance. Due to this growth the church relocated to a new site almost 5 years ago. They have also had a corresponding increase in staff, programs and ministries of every type.
